The Severn Valley Railway – some trials and tribulations is the title of a talk to be given by Martin Weeks to Church Stretton and District Rail Users’ Association at the autumn meeting which takes place on Thursday 26th October in St Laurence’s Parish Centre. Admission is free for members of the Association and £2 for visitors. The talk starts at 7.30pm and doors will be open from 7.15pm.
In his talk Martin will give a potted history of the line and then concentrate on some of the issues the Severn Valley Railway has faced in recent years, ranging from the challenges posed by serious geologically-induced civil engineering problems through to the Railway’s reliance on an ageing pool of volunteers, together with associated funding strategies.
It is some years since the Association’s autumn talk featured the Severn Valley Railway so the evening will be an opportunity for those who are familiar with the Railway to catch up on recent events as well as providing a valuable introduction to Shropshire’s premier heritage railway for a new audience.
