Church Stretton United Reformed Church
The Church has a liberal view of Christianity and describes itself as “Open, Inclusive and Questioning”. The URC Voice column in each edition of Focus follows this theme and is widely read. Sunday services are informal with a conversational non-theological approach. The congregation is welcoming, with visitors invited to join for coffee in the Hall after the service. The Church and the URC Hall are both major community venues. The Church holds a Bechstein grand piano and is widely used for musical and discussion events. The well-appointed Hall is ideal for varied community activities. Its audio-visual system has the latest equipment. Behind the Hall is an attractive garden which is open to the public providing a quiet haven from the bustle of the town centre. The Church is a member church of the Shropshire URC Pastorate, with two ministers based in Shrewsbury, one coming to us once a month. On other Sundays we call on other clergy, often from a different denomination. Local management is the flavour of the URC so the members, all local people, are the decision-makers for the Church.
