Marches Independent Photography

Marches Independent Photography is a small and informal group of photographers who first started meeting in 2007 to enjoy and learn from each others work. Members are drawn from throughout the Welsh Marches region of Shropshire and Powys. To date, we seem to have established only one rule, that there are no rules! We dont hold competitions and this, hopefully, encourages experimentation and innovation alongside the development of classic photographic skills.

We hold a full day (approx 10:30 – 16:00) meet once a month, normally on a Saturday. The current venue is All Stretton village hall, with a lunch break taken at The Yew Tree. Our meetings usually involve a fair amount of chat and individual members may show some of their work to the rest of the group, often in an informal round-the-table manner. We also occasionally invite visiting speakers and the wider photographic community. Previous speakers have included John Blakemore, Paul Hill and Daniel Meadows.

Several times a year, as a change from the indoor sessions, we organise an away-day. This might encompass an exhibition or place of particular photographic interest. Details will be shown on our website.

Finally, we have organised a number of group exhibitions throughout Shropshire, giving members the opportunity to show their work to the public.

The range of skills and approaches represented by our membership is very diverse and conversations can vary from traditional darkroom chemistry and high-end digital manipulation to the price and quality of prints from Boots and how we might shoot 360-degree panoramas with a pinhole camera!
